Honey Bees Are A Fascinating Addition to Terrapin Springs

Joanne became fascinated with honey bees and their important role in nature. Dreams became reality with our first four hives in 2016. Only four hives survived the first Winter;however, one hive did so well the following Spring that we split it into two hives. In the Fall of 2017 we harvested just one “super” that yielded 49 jars of great tasting honey. The remaining was left in the hives to feed the bees through the winter.

The first harvesting gave us a chance to learn how to extract and bottle the honey. We hope to double the harvest in 2018 as our friends have created a demand for the honey. Update: 106 jars in August 2018, 70 jars in 2019, and 50 jars in 2020.
